President Salva Kiir Mayardit has appointed a caretaker government following the dissolution of the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity on September 22, 2026, ahead of the general elections scheduled for December 22.<\/p>\n

The caretaker arrangement included national ministers, state governors, chief administrators, deputy ministers, presidential advisers, and other government officials.<\/p>\n

The head of state appointed Africano Mande Gadime as a caretaker minister of presidential affairs, Martin Elia Lomoro as minister of cabinet affairs, Ambassador Cecilia Adut Manyok as minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, and Ayor Akuoch Anok as minister of defense and veterans affairs to work in the caretaker government.<\/p>\n

He also appointed Rizik Zachariah Hassan as Minister of Interior, Dr. Wek Mamer Kuol as the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Obote Mamur Mete as the Minister of National Security, Athian Diing Athian as the Minister of Finance and Planning, and Awow Daniel Chuang as the Minister of Petroleum.<\/p>\n

Kiir further appointed Dr. Labanya Margret as the Minister of Trade and Industry, Ateny Wek Ateny as the Minister of Information, Communication, Technology, and Postal Services, and Michael Makuei Lueth as the Minister of East African Community Affairs, including Stephen Par Kuol as the Minister of Peacebuilding.<\/p>\n

James Ngere Paciko was appointed Presidential Adviser on Governance.<\/p>\n

For caretaker governors for all 10 states, the head of state appointed Augustino Jadalla Wani for Central Equatoria, Louis Lobong Lojore for Eastern Equatoria, Moses Majok Gatluak for Jonglei, Rin Tueny Mabor Deng for Lakes, and Charles Madut Akol for Northern Bahr el Ghazal.<\/p>\n

Joseph Monytuil Wejang was also appointed as the caretaker governor of Unity, James Koang Chuol for Upper Nile, Bol Wek Agoth for Warrap, Sherif Daniel Sherif for Western Bahr el Ghazal, and Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa for Western Equatoria states, respectively.<\/p>\n

The Republican Order states that officials serving during the caretaker period shall not contest for the relevant post.<\/p>\n

Three chief administrators that were appointed include Justice Charles Abyei Jok for Abyei Special Administrative Area, Joseph Baboya Ngere for Greater Pibor Administrative Area, and Daniel Makuei Thiyier for Ruweng Administrative Area.<\/p>\n

The order also stated that caretaker governors may nominate their interim county commissioners for counties within their respective states.<\/p>\n

President Kiir also appointed three acting deputy ministers: Philip Jada Natana as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Marial Chanuong Yol as Deputy Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, and David Marial Gumke as Deputy Minister of Interior.<\/p>\n

However, Gen. Kuol Manyang Juuk, the Senior Presidential Adviser; Tut Gatluak Manimeh, the Presidential Adviser on National Security Affairs; Dr. Costello Garang Riiny, the Presidential Adviser for International Relations and Foreign Affairs; and Peter Chaleman Cawach, the Presidential Adviser for Peace, continue serving during the caretaker period.<\/p>\n

Adut Salva Kiir, who is the Senior Presidential Envoy for Special Programs; Madut Yel Biar, the Presidential Envoy to the Great Lakes Region; and Joseph Paciko Ngere, the Presidential Adviser on Governance, would also serve during this period.<\/p>\n

The decree provides that ministries without an acting minister would continue to operate under their respective undersecretaries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
