President Salva Kiir Mayardit has said the ongoing inter-party dialogue on elections should not be used for negotiations, disagreements, or attempts to change the direction towards the December 2026 general elections.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the launch of the inter-party dialogue on election-related matters, President Kiir said the forum should instead help political parties agree on a path towards peaceful and credible elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis inter-party dialogue is not a place for negotiations and disagreement. It is not a place to shift the direction of the path that we have taken. It is not a place to hold us back. Instead, its main purpose is for all of us to agree on a path to a peaceful and credible election,\u201d Kiir said.<\/p>\n

The president said the dialogue should remain focused on election-related matters and provide an opportunity for stakeholders to establish a clear roadmap for completing the electoral process.<\/p>\n

He, however, cautioned participants against making decisions that contradict existing election laws.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis inter-party dialogue must focus especially on election-related matters. It is an opportunity for all of us to create a clear roadmap for concluding the elections. However, we must not contradict what the election laws have put in place,\u201d Kiir said.<\/p>\n

President Kiir said the country\u2019s journey towards general elections is based on four critical roadmaps: legal, administrative and logistical, security, and dialogue on election-related matters.<\/p>\n

According to Kiir, the legal roadmap has already been achieved, while the administrative, logistical, and security preparations are progressing.<\/p>\n

He said the inter-party dialogue represents the fourth component of the electoral roadmap and is intended to bring political actors together to address election-related issues.<\/p>\n

Kiir also thanked the C5 countries for their support towards the planned elections and acknowledged the African Union Peace and Security Council for its August 2026 meeting, where it recognised the government\u2019s commitment to holding elections in December 2026.<\/p>\n

The president further thanked religious leaders, civil society organisations and citizens for their role in supporting the electoral process.<\/p>\n

He urged participants in the dialogue to conduct their deliberations respectfully and within their mandate of discussing election-related matters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
