President Salva Kiir Mayardit has said that the success of the ongoing inter-party dialogue would be critical to consolidating peace and stability and paving the way for South Sudan\u2019s upcoming elections.<\/p>\n

In a statement released by his office press unit, the president made the remarks during separate high-level diplomatic meetings at the State House in Juba with Domitien Ndayizeye, former president of Burundi and member of the African Union Panel of the Wise, and Marco Impagliazzo, president of the Rome-based Catholic community Sant’Egidio.<\/p>\n

“President Kiir said the success of the dialogue will be critical to consolidating peace and stability and creating the necessary conditions for the country’s planned elections,” read an official statement issued following the discussions.<\/p>\n

Former President Ndayizeye commended President Kiir and the people of South Sudan for taking the initiative to advance the country’s democratic transition, stressing that the African Union remains fully supportive of the peace process.<\/p>\n

“Ndayizeye said the African Union supports the process and continues to encourage the government to ensure the meaningful participation of all political parties and national stakeholders,” the statement added.<\/p>\n

During his audience with Marco Impagliazzo, President Kiir recognised Sant’Egidio\u2019s longstanding engagement in South Sudan\u2019s peace efforts and welcomed the delegation\u2019s presence at the opening of the talks as a strong demonstration of international solidarity.<\/p>\n

For his part, Impagliazzo reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting South Sudan\u2019s path toward stability, stating that Sant’Egidio’s presence in Juba underscores its firm confidence in dialogue as the only sustainable route to resolving political differences.<\/p>\n

The meetings highlight growing regional and international backing for inclusive political engagement as the government maintains that peaceful dialogue remains central to resolving national challenges ahead of the December polls.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
