Their involvement can help prevent rumours, misinformation, and political tensions from developing into conflict.<\/p>\n
Continuing dialogue is especially important in communities that have experienced divisions and local disputes. Political differences should be managed through discussion rather than confrontation. Candidates and supporters should also be encouraged to respect opposing views and allow citizens to make their political choices freely.<\/p>\n
Authorities have a responsibility to create a safe environment for these engagements. Security institutions should protect citizens without interfering with legitimate political activities, while political parties should instruct their supporters to avoid violence, intimidation, and inflammatory language.<\/p>\n
Grassroots dialogue can also help citizens understand the electoral process, including voter registration, voting procedures, and the importance of peaceful participation. An informed electorate is better placed to participate responsibly.<\/p>\n
The December elections will be a national process, but their success will ultimately depend on what happens in communities. Dialogue must therefore remain active at every level, not only during election campaigns but throughout the electoral period.<\/p>\n
