Women\u2019s rights advocates have called on South Sudanese women to seek leadership positions and take a more active role in the country\u2019s political, peacebuilding, and electoral processes ahead of the planned December 2026 elections.<\/p>\n

The call was made Monday in Juba during a two-day training on Women, Peace, and Security, bringing together more than 30 women. The training is organised by Oxfam and the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), in collaboration with the Young Women\u2019s Christian Association (YWCA) of South Sudan.<\/p>\n

Held under the theme \u201cFrom Participation to Leadership: Empowering Women for Peace and Security,\u201d the training focuses on strengthening women\u2019s knowledge of leadership, civic rights, electoral participation, and the Women, Peace, and Security agenda.<\/p>\n

YWCA South Sudan Executive Director Namisio Joy Bage urged women to take advantage of leadership opportunities at community, state, and national levels.<\/p>\n

Bage said women can gain experience and influence decisions affecting their communities by participating in leadership at different levels.<\/p>\n

She also called on women-led organisations to strengthen cooperation and build stronger networks to amplify women\u2019s voices in decision-making spaces.<\/p>\n

Bage encouraged women to consider contesting elective positions in the planned 22 December 2026 elections.<\/p>\n

Asamtnew Kassa, Acting Country Director of Oxfam South Sudan, said the Women, Peace and Security agenda remains important as women prepare to participate in the electoral process.<\/p>\n

Kassa referred to UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which promotes women\u2019s participation in decision-making and peacebuilding.<\/p>\n

\u201cWomen should identify the spaces where they can participate meaningfully,\u201d Kassa told participants.<\/p>\n

He encouraged women to participate in different capacities, including as voters, political aspirants, election observers, mobilisers, peace advocates, and community educators.<\/p>\n

Kassa urged women to remain focused on their ambitions and pursue leadership opportunities regardless of gender.<\/p>\n

He said women\u2019s participation should extend across South Sudan\u2019s 10 states and three administrative areas.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s participation in leadership and decision-making remains a major focus of peacebuilding and civic engagement efforts in South Sudan. Women-led organisations and development partners have continued to promote women\u2019s involvement in peace processes, community decision-making, and political participation.<\/p>\n

The two-day training is intended to equip women with practical knowledge and skills to participate more effectively in peace and security initiatives, civic activities, and electoral processes.<\/p>\n

The organisers say stronger cooperation among women and women-led organisations can help create wider opportunities for women to participate in leadership and contribute to decisions affecting communities across South Sudan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
