President Salva Kiir Mayardit has appointed four additional caretaker national ministers as his administration continues to take shape following the dissolution of the transitional government.<\/p>\n

The latest appointments bring the number of caretaker national ministers to 17, with the new officials expected to oversee key sectors as the country prepares for the general elections scheduled for December 22, 2026.<\/p>\n

According to a presidential decree announced<\/a> Monday on state broadcaster SSBC, Peter Mayen Majongdit had been appointed Caretaker Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.<\/p>\n

Dr. John Gai Yoh has been appointed Caretaker Minister of Health, while Dr. Kuyok Abol Kuyok takes charge of the Ministry of General Education and Instruction.<\/p>\n

Denay Jock Chagor has also been appointed Caretaker Minister of Wildlife Conservation and Tourism.<\/p>\n

The four appointments come days after President Kiir dissolved the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity and appointed 13 caretaker ministers to maintain the operations of government during the electoral period.<\/p>\n

Some of the newly appointed officials have previously served in government. Kuyok Abol Kuyok and Denay Jock Chagor previously held the education and wildlife and tourism portfolios, respectively, while Peter Mayen Majongdit previously served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.<\/p>\n

Majongdit briefly confirmed his appointment but said he would address the media separately regarding his plans and responsibilities in the new caretaker administration.<\/p>\n

The caretaker government is expected to maintain the delivery of public services while overseeing government affairs during the electoral period.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Kiir has previously directed caretaker officials to work together, maintain national unity, and ensure effective service delivery as the country moves toward the December polls.<\/p>\n

The National Elections Commission has set December 22, 2026, as the date for the general elections, placing the caretaker administration under increased responsibility for maintaining government operations during the remaining electoral preparations.<\/p>\n

The head also issued a separate republican order allowing state governors and chief administrators of administrative areas to appoint seven caretaker state ministers, caretaker county commissioners, and caretaker mayors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
