{"id":48516,"date":"2026-10-03T14:12:50","date_gmt":"2026-10-03T12:12:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=48516"},"modified":"2026-10-06T14:14:55","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T12:14:55","slug":"39-wes-students-leave-for-aweil-under-adut-salva-kiir-scholarship-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/10\/03\/39-wes-students-leave-for-aweil-under-adut-salva-kiir-scholarship-program\/","title":{"rendered":"39 WES students leave for Aweil under Adut Salva Kiir scholarship program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Sabri Dibaco <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thirty-nine students from Western Equatoria State have begun travelling to Aweil in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State to continue their secondary education under the Adut Salva Kiir scholarship program.<\/p>\n<p>The beneficiaries include 18 boys and 21 girls, selected based on academic performance and social vulnerability, with priority given to vulnerable students and children of veterans.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship program in Western Equatoria is being implemented under the leadership of Caretaker Governor Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Director for Examination and Assessment at the State Ministry of General Education and Instruction and chairperson of the scholarship program in Western Equatoria, Kubako Emmanuel, said that vulnerability and academic performance were key criteria in selecting the students.<\/p>\n<p>He said students who completed Primary Eight with Distinction or Credit were considered, particularly those from families unable to afford secondary education.<\/p>\n<p>Emmanuel said some of the students had already travelled by air, while others were being transported through Juba to Aweil.<\/p>\n<p>He said air transport was used because of the poor condition of roads in Western Equatoria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of our road situation in Western Equatoria, it was not possible for us to take the students by road. We therefore decided to airlift them with the support of His Excellency,\u201d Emmanuel said.<\/p>\n<p>The students are expected to continue their secondary education from Senior One to Senior Four under the scholarship program.<\/p>\n<p>The Adut Salva Kiir Scholarship Programme is intended to provide educational opportunities to students who face financial and social difficulties in accessing secondary education.<\/p>\n<p>In Western Equatoria, the scholarship comes amid challenges facing families seeking to keep their children in school beyond primary education.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of school fees, learning materials, accommodation, and transport can make secondary education difficult for vulnerable families.<\/p>\n<p>The poor condition of roads in parts of Western Equatoria has also created additional challenges for the movement of students between the state and other parts of South Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>The departure of the 39 students has therefore provided an opportunity for the selected beneficiaries to continue their education outside the state.<\/p>\n<p>However, the program also highlights the broader need for increased investment in secondary schools, scholarships, and education infrastructure within Western Equatoria to enable more students to access and complete secondary education.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Sabri Dibaco Thirty-nine students from Western Equatoria State have begun travelling to Aweil in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State to continue their secondary education under the Adut Salva Kiir scholarship program.
