Eddy William Ponsiano, has urged the two communities to use the dialogue to rebuild trust and find peaceful ways to resolve their differences.

The dialogue, scheduled for next Saturday, is expected to bring together representatives of Iloli and Oguruny, neighbouring communities, and government officials to examine the causes of the conflict and seek solutions.

Community members said the disputes have affected their ability to move freely, conduct business, and access shared resources. They identified disputes over fishing grounds, revenge killings, cattle theft, and the killing of civilians among the issues they want addressed through the dialogue.

Residents said they want the peace process to go beyond calls for reconciliation and tackle the underlying disputes that continue to fuel tensions between the communities.

They said restoring peaceful relations would allow residents to travel between the areas without fear, resume trade and fishing activities, and cooperate in managing shared resources.

The situation has become more difficult because of the ongoing dry spell, which residents say has contributed to food shortages and forced some families to leave the area in search of food and other means of survival.

Community members said improved relations between Iloli and Oguruny could help residents respond collectively to the worsening humanitarian situation by sharing available resources and supporting local trade.

Ponsiano said rebuilding trust between the communities is essential to creating conditions in which residents can live, move, and carry out their daily activities without fear.

Members of both communities have welcomed the planned dialogue and expressed readiness to coexist peacefully, while emphasising that any agreement should address the issues they say are at the heart of the conflict.

The upcoming dialogue therefore faces the task of addressing not only reconciliation but also the disputes over resources, insecurity, and livelihoods that continue to affect residents at a time when families are already struggling with food shortages.

By Ijoo Bosco Residents of the Iloli and Oguruny communities in Hiyala Payam say prolonged conflict is restricting movement, disrupting livelihoods and worsening food insecurity as a severe dry spell puts additional pressure on families.
