{"id":48665,"date":"2026-10-08T13:08:13","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T11:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=48665"},"modified":"2026-10-08T13:09:21","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T11:09:21","slug":"eastern-equatoria-education-minister-orders-review-of-ministry-operations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/10\/08\/eastern-equatoria-education-minister-orders-review-of-ministry-operations\/","title":{"rendered":"Eastern Equatoria Education Minister orders review of ministry operations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Ijoo Bosco <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Caretaker Minister of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports in Eastern Equatoria State, Ibwaha Lucy Allam, has formed a five-member committee to investigate challenges affecting the ministry and recommend measures to improve its operations.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Lucy announced the committee during a meeting with ministry staff in Torit, where she also issued several directives aimed at improving access to ministry offices, protecting public assets, and strengthening the management of sports activities.<\/p>\n<p>The minister ordered the immediate opening of all ministry offices and the removal of equipment and other materials being stored inside rooms that should be accessible for official use.<\/p>\n<p>She also directed the committee to address a business entrance connecting the ministry premises directly to a commercial bar and restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>She said the door should either be closed or relocated farther away from the ministry premises to prevent unauthorised access and potential intrusion.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Lucy further called for the return of ministry assets that had been donated to the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, including vehicles, as well as the recovery of ministry offices that have been rented out to outside individuals or entities where the ministry is not benefiting from the arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe State Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports has many activities that need mobility. You can now see we need to transport the sports clubs to Juba. How can we do this?\u201d Minister Lucy asked.<\/p>\n<p>The minister also directed the committee to engage local sporting associations over concerns surrounding access to sporting activities at the Freedom Square grounds.<\/p>\n<p>She called for young people to be allowed to watch sports at Freedom Square without paying entrance fees, while proposing that entrance charges apply to adults above the age of 18.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Lucy also called on local football authorities in Torit to explain how gate collections from football matches benefit the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the ministry&#8217;s director general, Justine Thomson Ondongo, welcomed the minister&#8217;s directives and called for teamwork and cooperation among ministry staff to address the challenges facing the institution.<\/p>\n<p>Ondongo also called for the rehabilitation and renovation of the ministry&#8217;s entrance and sanitary facilities to ensure equitable access, particularly for people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>He further raised concerns over the shortage of sports equipment, particularly for the youth and sports department, saying additional equipment would help encourage young people to participate actively in sports and contribute to the development of the state.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting ended with a call for stronger coordination between ministry leadership, staff, and sporting associations to improve the delivery of services and promote youth and sports development across Eastern Equatoria.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ijoo Bosco The Caretaker Minister of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports in Eastern Equatoria State, Ibwaha Lucy Allam, has formed a five-member committee to investigate challenges affecting the ministry and recommend measures to improve its operations.
