Armed men have reportedly subdued a woman and stolen three cows and 12 goats in the Toich East neighborhood of Gogrial East County, Warrap State.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred on October 7, 2026, at around 10:00 p.m., when the woman was reportedly awakened by the armed men, who threatened her and forced her to remain quiet as they drove away the animals.<\/p>\n

Gabriel Mariak Gum, Acting Director of the Criminal Investigation Department in Gogrial East County, confirmed the incident, saying the woman was unable to resist the attackers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe incident occurred on October 7 as people were preparing to sleep. The men attacked a woman in the Toich East neighborhood and made away with three cows and 12 goats,\u201d Gum said.<\/p>\n

He said local authorities were working to identify and apprehend the suspects, expressing concern over the increasing frequency of cattle theft in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese criminals are so organised, and we are keen to find out where the men are coming from,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Gum added that the incident was the second of its kind reported in the area, warning that cattle rustling was increasingly becoming a lucrative criminal activity.<\/p>\n

He explained that the movement of security personnel to search for suspected cattle thieves sometimes left other households vulnerable to attacks.<\/p>\n

According to Gum, many residents in the area are pastoralists who move with their herds, often leaving some animals behind under the care of family members.<\/p>\n

Such arrangements, he said, can expose the remaining livestock to theft when security is limited.<\/p>\n

The latest incident highlights persistent concerns over cattle rustling in Gogrial East and other parts of Greater Warrap, where livestock remains a major source of livelihood, wealth, and social security for pastoralist communities.<\/p>\n

Repeated thefts can deepen insecurity, cause economic losses for families, and fuel tensions between communities, particularly when stolen animals are difficult to recover.<\/p>\n

The incident also raises questions about the capacity of local authorities to contain persistent insecurity as South Sudan prepares for the scheduled December 2026 general elections.<\/p>\n

Authorities have yet to publicly identify the suspects or announce any arrests in connection with the latest incident.<\/p>\n
