Political parties in South Sudan have a responsibility to promote peace, unity, and stability as the country prepares for its democratic future.

Political competition should never become a source of violence, division, or fear among citizens.

Political leaders must recognise that peace is essential for national development, economic recovery, and the well-being of the population.

Without peace, communities cannot fully engage in productive activities, children face disruptions to their education, and efforts to rebuild the country remain difficult.

Political parties should encourage dialogue, respect differences, and resolve disagreements through peaceful means.

Their leaders must also guide supporters to reject violence, hate speech, and ethnic divisions that threaten national unity.

As South Sudan moves toward elections, political actors should prioritise the interests of citizens above personal ambitions and party interests.

Elections should provide an opportunity for people to choose their leaders freely, not create tensions or hostility among communities.

The government, political parties, and other stakeholders must work together to strengthen trust, promote reconciliation, and ensure that political activities remain peaceful across the country.

Ultimately, South Sudan’s future depends on the collective commitment of its leaders and citizens to peace.

Political power is temporary, but the consequences of conflict can last for generations. All political parties must therefore make peace their priority.
