The People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) has announced the commencement of its candidate nomination process ahead of South Sudan’s general elections scheduled for December 22, 2026.

In a press release seen by the No. 1 Citizen Daily English newspaper on Monday, the party said it had officially begun the process of selecting candidates to contest for the presidency, state governorships, and parliamentary seats at the national, state, and administrative area levels.

The party said the nomination process would be guided by the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan.

The positions open for nomination include the President of the Republic of South Sudan, governors of the country’s 10 states and three administrative areas, and members of the national and state parliaments and special administrative area assemblies.

The party also pledged to promote inclusivity by giving young people, women, and persons with special needs equal opportunities to participate in the nomination process.

PDM said it expected its candidates to demonstrate clear visions for advancing peace, improving service delivery, and promoting national development.

The party added that candidates would also be expected to uphold its manifesto, which emphasises service, integrity, and a new beginning for South Sudan.

However, the PDM National Elections Committee is yet to announce the full nomination guidelines, including the timeline, application fees, and venues for applications and vetting across states, administrative areas, and constituencies.

The party called on qualified members and like-minded citizens who share its vision to come forward and participate in the process.

PDM further urged its members and supporters to maintain discipline and unity throughout the nominations, emphasising the importance of peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections.
