The Caretaker Commissioner of Juba County, Kalisto Lado Faustino Nyigilo Wani, has presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the installation of solar street lights along Bilpam Road, in a move aimed at improving security and infrastructure.

The project is being implemented by Light House General Trading and Investment Co. Ltd., which pledged its support for the development agenda of Juba County.

Speaking during the ceremony, Commissioner Kalisto Lado described the initiative as an important step toward modernising the county’s infrastructure and enhancing public safety.

He said the project marks the beginning of plans to extend street lighting to other roads across Juba County.

“I am here to serve our people, not just to sit in the office. This is only the beginning, and we intend to extend street lighting to other roads across Juba County,” he said.

The commissioner also warned motorists against reckless driving, stating that anyone who damages a streetlight pole by knocking it down would face a fine of US$5,000 and three months’ imprisonment.

He emphasised that the government would not tolerate the destruction of development projects.

He further called on residents to cooperate with the government and support development initiatives funded through public resources.

Commissioner Kalisto Lado also urged residents to support the leadership of Central Equatoria State Caretaker Governor Gen. Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani and President of the Republic of South Sudan Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit.

The solar street lighting project is expected to contribute to improved road visibility and public safety along Bilpam Road as Juba County continues its infrastructure development efforts.
