{"id":49096,"date":"2026-10-22T11:54:02","date_gmt":"2026-10-22T09:54:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=49096"},"modified":"2026-10-22T11:54:02","modified_gmt":"2026-10-22T09:54:02","slug":"defection-rocks-opposition-parties-as-over-1000-members-join-splm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/10\/22\/defection-rocks-opposition-parties-as-over-1000-members-join-splm\/","title":{"rendered":"Defection rocks opposition parties as over 1,000 members join SPLM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Louis Loku<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>More than 1,000 leaders and members from the Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO) and the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) have officially rejoined the Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in a political event held in Juba.<\/p>\n<p>According to the SPLM Secretary General, Akol Paul Kordit, the return of the members marks an important step towards strengthening political unity, reconciliation, and national development as South Sudan prepares for upcoming elections.<\/p>\n<p>Akol Kordit welcomed the returning leaders and members, presenting them with official SPLM party insignia and attire.<\/p>\n<p>He called on South Sudanese to embrace unity and reconciliation, emphasising the need to consolidate political stability and promote national development.<\/p>\n<p>Akol also reaffirmed that the SPLM maintains an open-door policy for citizens and former members who wish to join the party and contribute to national peacebuilding efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, SPLM Deputy Secretary General Baba Medan welcomed the decision by the returning members to rejoin the party, expressing appreciation for their commitment to the SPLM.<\/p>\n<p>According to Medan, collective engagement among people from different political backgrounds remains essential to addressing national priorities and advancing democratic progress.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasised the importance of working together to achieve the country\u2019s political and development goals.<\/p>\n<p>SPLM Secretary for Administration and Finance and Head of the Organising Committee.
