Lakes State Civil Society Network urged media platforms to stop spreading hate speech that causes violence among communities.<\/p>\n

Daniel Laat Kon Ater, chairperson of the Civil Society Organisations Network (CiSON) in Lakes State, urges online media platforms to stop spreading hate speech and incitement to violence.<\/p>\n

The Civil Society Organisations Network is deeply concerned about the increasing use of Facebook and other online media platforms by some individuals and online administrators to spread hate speech, incitement to violence, and graphic war videos and photos.<\/p>\n

“We have observed with great concern that some Facebook pages and online groups are deliberately sharing gruesome images of dead bodies, fighting scenes, and hate-filled messages targeting specific communities and groups,” he said.<\/p>\n

“This irresponsible use of social media is fueling anger, revenge, trauma, and inter-communal violence across the country. While we recognise freedom of expression as a constitutional right, freedom does not mean freedom to incite violence.”<\/p>\n

He said sharing graphic war content violates human dignity, traumatises families of victims, and directly undermines ongoing peacebuilding efforts.<\/p>\n

CiSON called upon all Facebook Online Administrators and Page Owners to immediately stop sharing war videos, photos of dead bodies, and messages that contain hate speech and incitement.<\/p>\n

“We urge you to follow ethical reporting, verify information before posting, and promote peace instead of violence. It’s high time that Facebook users and the public refrain from liking, commenting, and sharing content that spreads hate and violence; do not be an agent of conflict.<\/p>\n

He encouraged the Media Authority and the National Communication Authority to enforce the existing media ethics and take action against platforms that continuously spread hate speech.<\/p>\n

Our online platforms should be used to promote dialogue, tolerance, unity, and development\u2014not to divide us. Let us all choose to be peace promoters online and offline.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
