President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the Ministry of Interior to strengthen security preparations ahead of South Sudan\u2019s general elections scheduled for December 22, 2026.<\/p>\n

The directive aims to ensure a secure environment for voters, electoral officials, and other participants in the electoral process as the country prepares for the polls.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued by the Presidential Press Unit on Tuesday, October 20, the security team declared its readiness while briefing the president on preparations for the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n

The directive followed a meeting between President Kiir and the leadership of the Ministry of Interior, led by Caretaker Minister Lt. Gen. Rizik Zachariah Hassan.<\/p>\n

The minister briefed the president after three weeks of inspections and assessments conducted to identify security requirements, operational challenges, and priority areas requiring urgent attention.<\/p>\n
