Citizens should not allow political competition to become another source of division, hatred, and violence.

The country needs peaceful political participation, not confrontations between supporters of rival candidates.

Every candidate has the right to seek public support within the law, provided they respect the rights of others and comply with electoral regulations.

Equally, citizens have the right to listen to different political messages, attend campaign rallies, and decide which candidate best represents their aspirations.

No individual or political group should claim exclusive ownership of a community or prevent other candidates from reaching voters. Democracy becomes meaningful when political space is open to different opinions, and citizens can participate freely without fear.

Political leaders also have a responsibility to guide their supporters toward peaceful conduct. They should discourage inflammatory statements, reject political intimidation, and remind their followers that disagreements must be resolved through dialogue and lawful procedures.

The National Elections Commission and relevant security institutions should ensure that all candidates receive equal treatment and that campaign activities take place in a safe environment.

Complaints about obstruction, intimidation, or violations of electoral rules should be addressed fairly and transparently, regardless of the political affiliation of those involved.

Citizens, meanwhile, must understand that supporting a candidate does not give anyone the right to silence an opponent. The ballot, rather than threats or force, should determine who receives the people’s mandate.

As the December elections approach, South Sudan needs a political environment in which candidates can compete peacefully, and voters can make independent choices.

The credibility of the elections will depend not only on the work of electoral institutions but also on the conduct of political leaders, their supporters, and the wider public.

God protect South Sudan.

Be the spectator!

As aspiring candidates continue to declare their intentions and run campaigns ahead of South Sudan’s December 22, 2026, general elections, citizens must respect others’ political rights and avoid interrupting activities organised by their opponents. Elections are a democratic process in which citizens choose leaders they believe can represent their[Read More…]

[90,88,122,80,4

post-49124","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-commentary","category-editorial","category-nation-talk","category-national","category-politics
["GET
