The forecast also indicates rainfall in the southeastern parts of the Pibor Administrative Area and northern parts of Kapoeta East County in Eastern Equatoria.

The meteorological service said lighter rainfall of less than 30 millimetres is expected across most other parts of South Sudan.

Despite the anticipated rainfall, SSMS warned that extreme heat stress conditions are expected across most parts of the country during the forecast period.

Average temperatures are expected to exceed 28 degrees Celsius in most areas, raising concerns about heat exposure, particularly for people working outdoors and communities with limited access to shade and drinking water.

The service also forecast stronger winds of up to eight metres per second in Eastern Equatoria State.

The weekly outlook did not provide a direct statement from a meteorological official, but its forecast highlights the need for communities to monitor changing weather conditions and take appropriate precautions against heat and heavy rainfall.

The forecast indicates that rainfall patterns will vary across the country, with drier-than-usual conditions expected in eastern parts of Lakes State, most counties in Jonglei, the Pibor Administrative Area, Eastern Equatoria and Central Equatoria.

This comes despite recent rainfall observations showing generally wet conditions across much of South Sudan between October 10 and 17.

During that period, rainfall exceeding 50 millimetres was recorded in several counties in the southern, western and central parts of the country.

The areas that experienced moderate rainfall included parts of Lafon, Torit, Ikotos and Magwi in Eastern Equatoria; Juba, Lainya, Yei, Morobo and Kajo-Keji in Central Equatoria; and most counties in Western Equatoria.

Significant rainfall was also observed in Lakes State, parts of Western Bahr el Ghazal, southern Warrap, sections of Upper Nile, most counties in Jonglei and western parts of the Pibor Administrative Area.

However, light rainfall of less than 30 millimetres was concentrated in most other parts of the country.

South Sudan’s weather conditions can affect agriculture, road accessibility, transport and access to essential services, particularly in communities that rely on seasonal rainfall and have limited infrastructure.

Heavy rainfall can contribute to localised flooding and make roads difficult to use, while high temperatures can increase the risk of dehydration and heat-related illness.

The latest SSMS outlook provides weather information for the period October 21–28, 2026, and highlights contrasting conditions across the country, with moderate rainfall expected in selected areas and drier-than-usual conditions forecast in others.

Residents are encouraged to follow official weather updates and take precautions appropriate to their local conditions.

By Sabri Dibaco The South Sudan Meteorological Services (SSMS) has forecast moderate rainfall of between 50 and 100 millimetres in several parts of the country, while warning that extreme heat stress is expected across most regions between October 21 and 28, 2026.
