A community youth leader in Yambio, Western Equatoria State, John Mbikobayo has called for community support for initiative activities.

In an interview with the No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper on Sunday morning, John called for both state and national leadership of South Sudan to support such community development activities.

According to him, they aim to address and fight laziness among young people and minimise criminal activities involving youth.

This initiative comes amidst multiple reports of accidents, and it is aimed at improving movement, minimising road traffic, and congestion affecting rural communities coming to sell their local products in the town, according to John.

“We are not blaming the government or leadership because we do not know what is happening there, but they know that the road is damaged, and we do not need more; only their support, like providing us with soap to help our families, and, most importantly, their closeness to us, the communities,” he said.

He insisted on encouraging the rest of the South Sudan communities to learn from them and to not leave development only for the government or the leaders but to support where they are able in order to reach a community-improved standard of living.

For his part, Nyakanba Clement, a working member, said they work on the road to address the reports of suffering to reach town.

“We are seeing the suffering of our people using the road, like sometimes people fall in the contaminated water on the road, and they will return back home to go and change their clothes,” Clement said.

According to Nyakanba, the community responded positively with appreciation and support for the work, demonstrating the value and importance, with some individuals ignoring, disrespecting and forcing them to go against their working regulations
