The initiative aims to strengthen teachers’ professional capacity and improve the quality of teaching and learning.

Odongi further identified gender transformation as the third key component of the programme, explaining that it would promote gender equality among learners in Primary Seven and Eight while addressing barriers affecting girls’ participation, retention and progression in education.

Welcoming the delegation, Minister Ibwaha commended EFASS and its implementation partners for their commitment to supporting vulnerable learners and strengthening the education sector in Eastern Equatoria State.

However, she emphasised the need to expand the programme beyond Magwi and Torit to include other underserved counties and administrative areas across the state.

The minister specifically mentioned Imehejek, Chukudum, Ikwoto, Kawuto and Kimotong administrative areas as communities that also require targeted educational support.

She urged the partners to consider including these areas in a possible second phase of the programme, noting that expanding the initiative would enable more vulnerable children to benefit from improved learning opportunities.

Minister Ibwaha stressed that equitable access to education should extend to communities facing challenges in accessing educational services, particularly children from vulnerable households.

In response, Odongi welcomed the minister’s recommendations and said the delegation would engage its country directors and development partners to discuss possible opportunities for expanding the programme to additional areas of Eastern Equatoria State.

The visiting officials expressed appreciation for the minister’s guidance and acknowledged the importance of extending educational interventions to more communities across the state.

The four-year EFASS programme is expected to contribute to stronger school support systems, improved teacher capacity and greater gender equality in education across Magwi and Torit counties.

By Ijoo Bosco The Eastern Equatoria State Caretaker Minister of Education and Instruction, Ibwaha Lucy Allam, has called on education partners to extend their support programmes beyond Magwi and Torit counties to reach more vulnerable learners across the state.
