{"id":8654,"date":"2022-08-25T09:58:42","date_gmt":"2022-08-25T09:58:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=8654"},"modified":"2022-08-25T09:58:45","modified_gmt":"2022-08-25T09:58:45","slug":"mayor-commissioners-given-72-hours-to-swear-in-councilors-or-resign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2022\/08\/25\/mayor-commissioners-given-72-hours-to-swear-in-councilors-or-resign\/","title":{"rendered":"Mayor, commissioners given 72 hours to swear-in councilors or resign"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Mayor-and-Commissioners.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8655\" width=\"840\" height=\"630\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Mayor-and-Commissioners.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Mayor-and-Commissioners-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>The governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony (photo: Courtesy)<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By William Madouk Garang<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The six county Commissioners of Central Equatoria State and the Mayor of Juba City (JCC) have been given 72 hours ultimatum to swear-in county and city council councilors by Friday 26 August or tender resignation letter, this is a directive from the State governor, Emmanuel Adil Anthony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a circular, following the state cabinet meeting on tax harmonization discovered that tax irregularities between local, state and national governments happen due to lack of councilors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of the major reported issues of irregularities on tax rate schedules, competence and collection is a result of absence of legislative council at local government institutions,\u201d reads part of the statement addressed to county Commissioners and Mayor of Juba City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement, Moro Isaac Jenesio, said the State Cabinet has resolved for councilors to be sworn-in and if not sworn-in after days they should tender their resignation. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith this background, the council of ministers resolved that, County\/JCC councilors must be sworn-in with immediate effect,\u201d Jenesio said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cConsequently, the governor has directed and warned that, the councilors must be sworn-in latest Friday August 26, 2022 without fail and that, any County Commissioner or Mayor of JCC who fails to respect this directive must tender his\/her resignation,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The South Sudan Local Government Act of 2009 as amended chapter (4) section (20) provides for the establishment of Local Government Councils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter (5) section (25) of the Act states that there shall Legislative Authority in each Local Government Council as the highest legislative in the Council;
