{"id":8936,"date":"2022-09-03T06:50:50","date_gmt":"2022-09-03T06:50:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=8936"},"modified":"2022-09-03T06:50:53","modified_gmt":"2022-09-03T06:50:53","slug":"livestock-not-a-problem-but-peoples-attitudes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2022\/09\/03\/livestock-not-a-problem-but-peoples-attitudes\/","title":{"rendered":"Livestock not a problem, but people\u2019s attitudes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Livestock.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8937\" width=\"846\" height=\"637\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Livestock.png 473w, https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Livestock-300x226.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 846px) 100vw, 846px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>Eastern Equatoria State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore\/Courtesy photo<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By Tereza Jeremiah Chuei<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State Louis Lobong Lojore declared that livestock are not the problem but rather the attitudes of people are to blame for cattle-related violence that has often triggered inter-communal violence and subnational conflicts across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The governor asserted that stringent rules that will squarely deal with cattle raiding, and other offences related to livestock are needed in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lobong told the National Government during a national conference on livestock in Juba to Act tough on cattle raiders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf we put in place strict rules and people respect them then we will have no problem\u201d governor Lobong said in a statement on his official Facebook page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLivestock is not a problem, people are the problem, it is in fact our attitude that is the problem in this Country\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lobong stated that cattle have been in South Sudan since time immemorial, and he appealed for stronger adherence to the rule of law by citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The three days national livestock conference started on 1<sup>st<\/sup> ofSeptember 2022 in Juba under the theme; \u2018Stop cattle raiding and Migration related conflict- transition to commercialization\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hundreds of leaders from the ten States and the, three Administrative Areas are attending the conference aimed at ending the longstanding hostilities among communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference is expected to review the current situation of cattle raiding and migration related conflicts in South Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s also expected to explore solutions to tackle cattle raiding and migration related conflict in South Sudan, and share strategies to transform the livestock industry, moving towards greater commercialization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference also seeks to come up with rules to regulate the movements of cattle and how to handle conflict that may arise in during the dry season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Livestock occupies an important place in socio-economic welfare of pastoral, agro-pastoral and mixed crop or livestock farming households in South Sudan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Tereza Jeremiah Chuei The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State Louis Lobong Lojore declared that livestock are not the problem but rather the attitudes of people are to blame for cattle-related violence that has often triggered inter-communal violence and subnational conflicts across the country.
