{"id":9890,"date":"2022-10-15T04:30:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-15T04:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=9890"},"modified":"2022-10-14T19:06:49","modified_gmt":"2022-10-14T19:06:49","slug":"nca-rebuffs-parliaments-report-that-zain-mtn-still-pay-sudan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2022\/10\/15\/nca-rebuffs-parliaments-report-that-zain-mtn-still-pay-sudan\/","title":{"rendered":"NCA rebuffs parliament\u2019s report that Zain, MTN still pay Sudan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/MTN-Zain-logo-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9891\" width=\"842\" height=\"419\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/MTN-Zain-logo-1.jpg 601w, https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/MTN-Zain-logo-1-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 842px) 100vw, 842px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>MTN, Zain logo (photo courtesy)<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By William Madouk Garang &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Communication Authority has rebuffed parliamentary finance committee\u2019s report which claimed that two major mobile network operators \u2013 MTN and Zain were still paying taxes to Sudan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head of NCA, Napoleon Adok was reacting to a report by national parliament last week which alleged that the main telecom operating companies in the Country are still paying neighboring Sudan levies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe house observes that frequency fees are still being collected by Sudan from Zain and MTN because their registration licenses are valid until 2024 and 2027 respectively,\u201d said Changkuoth Bichiock, the chairperson for finance and economic planning committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing the media, Mr. Adok said the claim that main mobile operating companies still pay business profit taxes to Sudan is not true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would also want to use this opportunity to clarify some issues that has been in the media recently that Zain and MTN are still paying taxes to Sudan, that is not true,\u201d Adok refuted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat has actually been said to the parliament was that the licenses of Zain and MTN which are now working \u2013 are those licenses which were paid to Sudan before independence,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stated that the government then reached harmonization agreement with mobile operating firms to allow them to complete their term before they would be issued sovereign license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was the license fee that was paid to Sudan back in 2005 before our independence [and] that we have allowed Zain to run it cost.
