The former Speaker, Jema Nunnu Kumba, has expressed gratitude to the President for the trust and confidence placed in her to serve as the Speaker in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly.
The former speaker highlighted both achievements and challenges encountered throughout her leadership.
In a letter, the former speaker thanked the head of state for the opportunity to serve as the first female speaker in the nation, the governor, and all the ministerial offices.
She noted that her tenure was marked by significant milestones aimed at strengthening legislative functions and promoting national development.
“The lessons I learnt during my tenure as the first female governor in South Sudan and the subsequent ministerial position I held thereafter were foundational in informing my work at the TNLA and my representation of the country in the region and internationally,” Kumba said.
She pointed to key accomplishments, including efforts to enhance cooperation within the assembly, improve lawmaking processes, and support government programs.
However, she also acknowledged the difficulties faced, citing political and institutional challenges that required resilience and collective effort to navigate.
Despite the obstacles, the former Speaker emphasized that her commitment to serving the nation remains unwavering.
“I remain fully committed to playing my part in advancing the legislative agenda, strengthening democratic governance, and contributing to the realization of the aspiration of our people,” Nunu Kumba said.
She vowed to continue contributing to the country’s progress under the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party and in support of the government.
“I equally remain fully committed and loyal to my party under your able leadership, the government, and the people of South Sudan, through unity of purpose and dedication to the national interest, and under your able leadership.”
She called on leaders and citizens alike to remain united and focused on building a peaceful and prosperous nation, stressing the importance of collaboration and dedication to national interests.
Her remarks come at a time of transition in the legislative assembly, as the country continues to pursue stability and development.
