A senior SPLM/A-IO party representative, Maj. Gen. Dr. Chuol Rueny Kampuok has called on the government to recommit to the ceasefire and embrace dialogue in order to bring peace to the country.
This call comes during a Third Ceasefire & Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) board meeting on Thursday in Juba.
“On behalf of my members, it is my honour to call the leadership of this country to recommit and observe a ceasefire. The dialogue would be the best road map to lead this country into peace resettlement,” he said.
Maj. Gen. Rueny emphasised that it is the responsibility of all people to share love and care for their fellow citizens.
“We know very well that the international community also put pressure on the South Sudanese so that we achieve peace. Therefore, there is no any awakening apart from us committing to the peace,” he said.
“It will be upon us to re-engineer the development of this country so that we enjoy the relative peace and have development at heart so that the economic crisis that we are facing should be curbed and have a peaceful settlement,” Rueny further added.
On his part, Maj. Gen. Teshome Anagawe Ayana, CTSAMVM chairperson, also emphasised that the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity (RTGoNU) should fast-track the unification, training, and deployment of Necessary Unified Forces (NUF) to replace fragmented forces and improve discipline and cohesion.
“All signatory parties should enforce strict control over personnel, prohibit unauthorised movement, and ensure accountability for violations, particularly incidents involving killings, looting, and misuse of weapons,” he stated in his opening remark.
He underscored that RTGoNU should focus on restoring civilian security and addressing threats from non-signatory groups, as these remain the most critical gaps undermining effective implementation of the R-ARCS.
“All parties to recommit to inclusive dialogue and full implementation of the R-ARCSS, including advancing Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) processes,” he added.
He affirmed that CTSAMVM remains fully committed to its mandate of monitoring, verifying, and reporting on violations of the revitalised agreement.
“Our personnel continue to demonstrate exceptional dedication and professionalism under challenging conditions”, he stated.
