By Sabri Dibaco

The Political Parties Council (PPC) has officially endorsed the Election Code of Conduct for all registered political parties in South Sudan.

The body also approved the deployment of state and administrative area coordinators as part of efforts to strengthen electoral oversight nationwide.

In a press statement issued after its plenary session, the Council announced that members unanimously reviewed, adopted, and endorsed the Election Code of Conduct, describing the decision as a significant step toward promoting peaceful, transparent, and credible elections.

“The Political Parties Council (PPC) is pleased to announce to the public, political stakeholders, and members of the media that during its plenary session held today, the Council successfully reviewed, passed, and officially endorsed the Election Code of Conduct for all registered political parties in South Sudan,” the statement said.

The Council said the code demonstrates the commitment of political parties to uphold agreed electoral standards and principles that will govern their conduct throughout the electoral process.

In addition to adopting the code, the PPC approved the appointment and deployment of coordinators and inspectors to all states and administrative areas to strengthen decentralised operations and ensure compliance with political party regulations nationwide.

“Further, to ensure effective decentralised operations and strict regulatory compliance across the country, the Council has formally approved the appointment and deployment of state and administrative area coordinators and inspectors,” the statement added.

According to the Council, the appointments are expected to improve monitoring and oversight of political party activities at the grassroots level while enhancing the implementation of electoral regulations across the country.

The PPC said one of the major outcomes of the plenary session was the unanimous endorsement of the Election Code of Conduct, which it described as a foundational instrument for regulating the conduct and ethical standards of political parties.

“The Election Code of Conduct serves as a foundational instrument to regulate the activities and ethics of political organisations. It establishes rules of engagement that prioritise democratic integrity, mutual respect, peaceful campaigning, and gender inclusion, while explicitly prohibiting intimidation, hate speech, and the use of weapons,” the statement said.

The Council further noted that the approval of the code and the deployment of state coordinators form part of its statutory responsibilities as South Sudan prepares for future elections.

The Political Parties Council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting democratic governance, accountability, peaceful political competition, and cooperation among all political stakeholders as the country advances toward credible, inclusive, and peaceful elections.
