Teenager killed in dispute over boyfriend in Aweil East County

Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have reported that a 12-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her peer following an argument over a boyfriend.

The spokesperson of the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Police Service, Madut Ngong Aleu, said the incident occurred earlier this week in Kuel-Ajuong village of Madhol Payam, Aweil East County.

According to Aleu, the two teenagers were involved in a heated dispute in a secluded area when one of them allegedly stabbed the other with a knife, killing her on the spot.

“What occurred between Wednesday and Friday at Kuel-Ajuong of Madhol Payam is that a teenager killed her own peer as they were having a heated argument over a boyfriend. She allegedly used a knife and killed her,” Aleu said.

The incident has reportedly heightened tensions within the community, prompting the deployment of security personnel to the area to prevent possible retaliatory violence.

Aleu called on relatives and friends of the deceased to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.

He further urged community members to seek justice through the police and customary courts rather than taking matters into their own hands.

“We encourage residents to be peace-loving and report cases to the police or local courts for redress instead of resorting to violence,” he said.

The two incidents have raised concerns among authorities about child safety, supervision, and the growing need for community awareness on conflict resolution and accident prevention.
