Sapana Abui, the Director General for Information and Compliance at the Media Authority and a former Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, has died after a short illness.
Abui passed away late Saturday night at the Juba Teaching Hospital, his brother, Rev. Repent Abraham Dominic, confirmed.
Before his appointment at the Media Authority, Abui served as the Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State and previously held the position of State Minister of Information, where he played a significant role in government communication and public information.
At the Media Authority, he served as Director General for Information and Compliance, overseeing the implementation of media regulations and promoting professional standards within South Sudan’s media sector.
His death marks the loss of a public servant who served in both state and national institutions. Colleagues and members of the media fraternity have begun expressing condolences, remembering him for his commitment to public service and the development of the country’s media landscape.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
Sapana Abui held several senior public offices during his career, including Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, State Minister of Information, and Director General for Information and Compliance at the Media Authority.
His career spanned state administration and national media regulation, where he contributed to governance, public communication, and the enforcement of media standards.
