Kanjoro bridge financial and material resources mobilisation drive kickstarts

By James Innocent

‎The Chairperson of the Kanjoro Bridge Construction Committee, Johnson Poru Hillary, has said the committee is intensifying efforts to mobilise financial and material resources.

This is ahead of the official launch of the Kanjoro Bridge construction project scheduled for later this month.

‎Speaking after a meeting with the commissioner of Yei River County, Hon. Samuel Henry Malimbo, Hillary said the committee is engaging community members, organisations and individuals who pledged support during earlier fundraising campaigns, urging them to fulfill their commitments before construction begins.

‎”The success of this project depends on the collective support of the community and partners who have committed to contributing towards the bridge,” Hillary said.

‎During the meeting, the committee updated the county commissioner on progress made in mobilising resources and preparations for the planned launch.

Members said fundraising and the collection of construction materials are continuing as final arrangements are completed.

‎Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo commended the committee for its commitment and cooperation, describing the bridge as an important community-driven development initiative.

He encouraged members to continue working together to secure the remaining resources needed for construction, noting that some building materials have already been delivered to the project site.

Emeritus Bishop Hillary Adeba of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan (ECSS) welcomed the county government’s support for the initiative and praised the collaboration between local authorities, community leaders, and technical partners.

‎He also recognised the commitment of the Point Investment Engineering Department, saying its involvement demonstrates support for infrastructure projects that benefit local communities.

‎Once completed, the Kanjoro Bridge is expected to strengthen transport links between communities in Mukaya Payam of Lainya County and neighbouring areas of Yei River County.

‎Local leaders say the bridge will improve access to markets for agricultural produce, enhance movement to schools and health facilities, and provide a safer crossing for residents throughout the year.

‎The project is being implemented through a partnership involving local authorities, community leaders, and residents, with resource mobilisation continuing ahead of the anticipated construction launch.
