Senior Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) figure Daniel Awet Akot has called for stronger party mobilisation, unity, and coordination as the movement prepares for the general elections scheduled for December 2026.
Akot made the call during a meeting with the governor of Central Equatoria State and the state SPLM chairperson, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, in Juba.
The two leaders discussed the progress of electoral preparations and the importance of strengthening party structures across the state and the country.
The meeting centered on improving coordination among SPLM leadership, enhancing grassroots mobilisation, and ensuring that party members remain organised and prepared for the upcoming electoral process.
Akot emphasised that unity among party members and commitment to serving citizens must remain key priorities as the SPLM enters the election period.
He said effective mobilisation requires strong communication between party leaders, local structures, and communities to ensure that the concerns of citizens are understood and addressed.
He urged SPLM members to remain focused on promoting peace, stability, and development while preparing for the elections. According to Akot, a well-organised party structure is essential for responding to the expectations of the population and strengthening public confidence in the political process.
Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony welcomed the meeting and expressed appreciation for Akot’s engagement, describing consultations among party leaders as important during this critical phase.
The governor highlighted the need for continued dialogue and cooperation within the SPLM to ensure that the party remains united as it prepares for the elections.
He said collaboration among leaders would contribute to effective planning and mobilisation efforts.
The discussions come at a time when political parties in South Sudan are increasing preparations ahead of the December 2026 polls.
The elections are expected to mark a significant moment in the country’s political transition, with parties working to organise their supporters, strengthen internal structures, and engage citizens across different communities.
For the SPLM, which has played a central role in South Sudan’s political landscape since independence, preparations have focused on improving party coordination and ensuring readiness at national, state, and grassroots levels.
The meeting between Akot and Governor Adil is part of wider consultations among SPLM leaders aimed at strengthening cooperation and ensuring the party approaches the upcoming elections with a clear strategy.
