The Governor of Western Equatoria State, Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa, has directed county commissioners across the state to provide full support to civic educators and ensure that all communities are reached as civic and voter education activities commence ahead of South Sudan’s 2026 general elections.
Speaking during the official launch of the state’s civic and voter education campaign this week in Yambio, Governor Rimbasa instructed county authorities to facilitate the work of civic educators by granting them access to every part of the state, including hard-to-reach and remote communities.
He emphasised that every eligible citizen has the right to receive civic education without discrimination, urging commissioners to ensure that no one is left behind in the awareness campaign.
The governor also assured residents that the state government would prioritise security throughout the civic and voter education exercise, enabling citizens to participate freely and prepare for the upcoming elections in a peaceful environment.
“The responsibility of county commissioners is to support civic educators and ensure they can reach every community so that all citizens understand their rights and responsibilities in the electoral process,” Governor Rimbasa said.
The civic and voter education campaign seeks to raise public awareness about the electoral process, educate citizens on their constitutional rights and responsibilities, and encourage peaceful, informed, and inclusive participation in the elections.
South Sudan is preparing for the 2026 general elections, with civic education regarded as a key component in ensuring that voters understand the electoral process and make informed decisions at the ballot box.
The exercise is expected to contribute to credible, peaceful, and inclusive elections while strengthening democratic governance across the country.
