President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called on newly appointed diplomats to serve the country with professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to national unity.
The head of state remarked while presiding over the swearing-in of 14 Grade Three ambassadors.
According to a statement from the presidential press unit, the head of state urged the newly appointed ambassadors to place the country’s interests at the forefront of their diplomatic assignments and to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on South Sudan.
Speaking during the ceremony, President Kiir reminded the diplomats that they would serve as the country’s representatives abroad and would play an important role in strengthening relations between South Sudan and the international community.
He emphasised that professionalism, discipline, and integrity should guide their work, saying these qualities are essential for building confidence with international partners and promoting the country’s image overseas.
The President also stressed the importance of national unity, encouraging the ambassadors to work in the interest of all South Sudanese and to remain committed to advancing peace, cooperation, and development through diplomacy.
According to the presidential statement, Kiir said the country’s diplomatic missions are expected to safeguard South Sudan’s interests while deepening bilateral and multilateral relations with foreign governments and international organisations.
He urged the ambassadors to carry out their responsibilities with dedication and a strong sense of public service.
“He urged the ambassadors to conduct themselves with discipline and professionalism, noting that they represent the country and its people on the international stage” the statement partly read.
The swearing-in ceremony officially marked the beginning of the ambassadors’ diplomatic careers under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
As Grade Three ambassadors, they are expected to undergo diplomatic assignments aimed at representing South Sudan’s foreign policy priorities and strengthening engagement with partner countries.
The ceremony comes as South Sudan continues to seek stronger diplomatic and economic partnerships with countries across Africa and beyond.
Government officials have repeatedly emphasised the importance of an active foreign service in attracting investment, mobilising development support, and expanding the country’s engagement in regional and international affairs.
Diplomats are often at the forefront of promoting bilateral cooperation, protecting the interests of South Sudanese citizens abroad, and representing the country’s positions in international forums.
Their work also includes supporting efforts to expand trade, encourage foreign investment, and strengthen political and economic ties with partner nations.
