Residents of Gudele Block Two have intensified community security efforts by mobilising local leaders, youth, women, and police to address rising criminal activities in the area.
During a community security meeting, Area Chief Modi Emmanuel said increasing incidents of phone snatching and suspicious movements have become a major concern for residents, particularly women.
“There has been a lot of unnecessary movement in our area, and criminals continue to grab people’s phones. Women are among the most affected. By working closely with the police and the newly appointed community members, we believe these crimes will be significantly reduced,” Chief Emmanuel said.
He noted that the newly selected community security members will work alongside police officers to strengthen surveillance, improve information sharing, and enhance public safety across the neighborhood.
Speaking on behalf of women in the community, the women’s representative, Mama Catharine, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely response to growing insecurity.
“This measure will help us as women because we are the ones who often fear moving around due to phone theft and other criminal activities. We appreciate the community and the police for taking this step to improve our safety,” she said.
The youth representative, Mabu Juma, also pledged the commitment of young people to support peace and security in the area.
“As youth, we are ready to work hand in hand with the police and community leaders to reduce crime. We want Gudele Block Two to be a safe place for everyone, and we encourage fellow young people to be part of the solution rather than the problem,” he said.
Residents expressed optimism that the strengthened collaboration between community leaders, youth, women, and law enforcement will help restore security and create a safer environment for all people living in Gudele Block Two.
