Western Equatoria State Governor Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa led a delegation of state and county officials to assess conditions at Yambio Open Market, including security, cleanliness, taxation, commodity prices, limited trading spaces, access roads, and pathways.
Sellers in Yambio raised concerns during the government-led assessment of the Open Market on Thursday, 27 August 2026, to address security and other challenges facing traders.
Some traders said individuals bring chickens to their businesses for sale, but they (traders) later face arrest when the chickens are suspected to have been stolen.
Therefore, sellers appealed to the Western Equatoria State Government to address repeated arrests and detention linked to chickens allegedly stolen by individuals.
Traders also appealed to authorities to investigate the source of the chickens and establish whether sellers knowingly bought stolen birds before taking legal action against them.
“Sometimes they bring chickens to our places, and we have problems, and we are not happy about that,” one of the sellers said.
Governor Badagbu said the state government would review the concerns raised by traders and take appropriate measures to improve security, market organisation and the overall business environment.
The assessment was attended by the State Minister of Commerce and Trade, the Yambio County Commissioner, the Mayor of Yambio, the Commissioner of the Revenue Authority, and other government officials.
