President Salva Kiir Mayardit has met with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Resource Mobilisation Team as the ruling party intensifies preparations for its third National Convention and the country’s general elections scheduled for December.
According to the presidential press unit, the meeting comes as the SPLM moves into a broader reorganisation process aimed at strengthening the party’s structures and consolidating its readiness for the upcoming polls.
SPLM Secretary-General Dr. Akol Paul Kordit said the party is determined to shift political mobilisation away from Juba-based networks and toward grassroots engagement across South Sudan.
“We want to assure our members and cadres that the power is going back to the people of South Sudan,” Akol said.
He said the party’s task was to ensure that people elected to represent communities in government are chosen through the support of their own constituencies.
Akol described the shift as a move away from what he called “hotel-based politics” in Juba toward people-centred politics rooted in communities across the country.
He reaffirmed the SPLM’s support for President Kiir, describing him as the party’s flag bearer and the candidate the SPLM believes can deliver peace, stability, and national unity.
“We all stand behind our chairman, Comrade Salva Kiir Mayardit, our flag bearer, whom we believe is the only candidate who will bring peace and stability and reunite our country for a better future,” Akol said.
The Secretary-General said the SPLM was continuing to consolidate its structures and prepare for the electoral process, signalling an increasingly active campaign ahead of the December vote.
The party’s Resource Mobilisation Committee is also preparing for a nationwide and international outreach campaign.
Its head, Lam Tungwar, said the committee would travel across South Sudan and engage supporters abroad to mobilise financial and political support as the electioneering period begins.
The mobilisation drive is expected to form a key part of the SPLM’s strategy as it seeks to strengthen its grassroots presence ahead of the party’s third National Convention and the December general elections.
With the electoral timetable drawing closer, the SPLM leadership is positioning the party for a campaign centred on grassroots mobilisation, organisational reorganisation and renewed support for President Kiir’s leadership.
