South Sudan is expected to receive varying amounts of rainfall this week, with moderate rains forecast in parts of Western Equatoria and Western Bahr el Ghazal states.
According to the latest weather forecast from the South Sudan Meteorological Service, moderate rainfall of between 100 and 200 millimetres is expected over southern Ibba, Yambio, and Nzara, as well as the western parts of Ezo County in Western Equatoria State.
The forecast also indicates that most parts of Raja County in Western Bahr el Ghazal State are expected to receive moderate rainfall during the forecast period.
Meanwhile, light rainfall of less than 50 millimetres is expected across most other parts of South Sudan.
The forecast means communities in areas expecting moderate rainfall should remain alert to possible impacts associated with heavy or prolonged rains, including localised flooding, difficult road conditions, and disruption to movement.
Recent weekly weather information published through South Sudan’s climate information system has also identified Western Equatoria and parts of Western Bahr el Ghazal among areas receiving higher rainfall totals.
The Meteorological Service’s rainfall information is important for farmers, transport operators, humanitarian agencies, and communities to plan and take appropriate precautions during the rainy season.
