Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Governor Charles Madut Akol has warned newly recruited police trainees against drug use, indiscipline, and misconduct as they undergo training in Aweil Town.
Governor Madut issued the warning on Tuesday during a visit to the police training centre in Mathiang, where more than 300 recruits from across Northern Bahr el Ghazal State are receiving police training.
The governor said the purpose of his visit was to assess the trainees and encourage them to uphold professionalism, discipline, and the police code of conduct as they prepare to serve the public.
“My aim in coming here is to see for myself the number of those who are patriotic and committed to completing the training of the police.”
Madut stressed the importance of professionalism and respect for the rule of law among the recruits.
“Rule of law is important to get implemented, and through that you have to show professionalism and discipline, so work on improving those,” he said.
The governor also cautioned trainees against using drugs, including locally known substances such as banga, saying such behaviour could affect their conduct and ability to serve as police officers.
“If there is anyone among you here who takes banga or drugs that makes you think unruly and act that way, please leave early.”
He urged the trainees who remain in the program to demonstrate discipline and commitment throughout their training.
“Those who are more principled are the people we are looking for here to complete the training,” Madut said.
The trainees include young men and women recruited from the state’s five counties and two municipal councils.
The police training is part of efforts to prepare newly recruited personnel for service in Northern Bahr el Ghazal and the wider country. Police recruits are expected to receive training in areas including discipline, law enforcement, public service, and professional conduct before deployment.
Governor Madut’s visit comes as the recruits continue their training in Mathiang, Aweil Town, with an emphasis on preparing personnel capable of maintaining law and order and serving communities in accordance with the law.
