Unknown individuals have broken into the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) office in Aweil West County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, and stolen seven chairs and a wooden table.
The incident reportedly occurred over the weekend, with the suspects remaining at large as of Wednesday.
Garang Majak Atak, Secretary of the SPLM County Office in Aweil West, said party officials were shocked after discovering the missing furniture when they reported to their offices on Monday.
Majak said the stolen items included seven chairs and a wooden table, adding that the identities of those responsible were not known.
“This is not the first time for the chairs and office materials to be taken. We were just surprised on Monday as we were getting into our respective offices. We learnt about this incident, and it is too shocking,” he said.
Atak condemned the incident and warned young people against engaging in acts that undermine public and institutional property.
“We are aware of this, as some people who are not happy with the system can just attempt to send the boys and take away the properties. These are ill-intentioned behaviours and are uncalled for,” he said.
He further warned that anyone found responsible could face legal consequences.
“Those who do such acts will be faced with dangerous actions or results. Why choose such a path of being destructive to the community and the system that tackles the issues of the public?” Atak questioned.
He called on community members, particularly young people, to respect public property and avoid actions that could disrupt the operations of political and public institutions.
The incident comes as political parties and institutions prepare for the country’s scheduled December 2026 elections.
However, there is no evidence presented linking the break-in to the upcoming elections or to any political faction.
Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or announced arrests in connection with the reported theft.
The SPLM county office is expected to continue engaging relevant authorities to investigate the incident and recover the stolen property.
