The Terekeka County Commissioner has received a high-level military committee tasked with coordinating preparations for the screening and integration of Agwelek forces into South Sudan’s national security structures.
In a statement that was released yesterday, the delegation, headed by Major General Peter Gai Kuol, visited Terekeka County to brief the commissioner on the plans and arrangements for the upcoming exercise.
According to the information provided during the meeting, members of the former opposition Agwelek forces, commanded by Lieutenant General Johnson Olony, are expected to undergo screening before being integrated into the country’s national security institutions.
“The screening and integration exercise is expected to take place in Terekeka County in the near future as part of efforts to advance the process of bringing former opposition forces into the national security system,” the statement partly read.
During the meeting, the County Commissioner warmly welcomed the military committee and expressed appreciation for its commitment to supporting national peace and security.
The commissioner encouraged the delegation to approach the process with diligence and ensure that the planned activities are carried out in an organised manner.
He also pledged the full support and cooperation of the county administration, saying local authorities would work closely with the military committee to facilitate the successful implementation of the exercise.
The commissioner’s support is expected to help create a conducive environment for the screening and integration process, including coordination with relevant local authorities and communities in the county.
The visit comes as preparations continue for the movement and integration of Agwelek forces following directives for members of the group to undergo assembly, screening, and integration into the unified national security structures.
“The process is intended to contribute to the broader implementation of South Sudan’s peace arrangements and efforts to unify the country’s security forces,” the statement continued.
The successful implementation of the exercise will require close coordination among national security authorities, the military committee, county officials, and local communities.
The Terekeka County administration has therefore committed itself to supporting the committee as it carries out its responsibilities and prepares for the arrival and screening of the Agwelek forces.
The meeting marks an important step in preparations for the anticipated screening and integration exercise in Terekeka County.
