The Secretary-General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Dr. Akol Paul Kordit, has called on party members from Upper Nile, Unity, and Jonglei states, as well as the Greater Pibor and Ruweng Administrative Areas, to return to their constituencies and prepare for the party’s upcoming primary elections and congresses.
Kordit made the call while addressing a high-level SPLM committee meeting in Juba, saying the move is part of preparations for the party’s Third National Convention and the general elections scheduled for December.
He urged party cadres to return to their respective states, administrative areas, constituencies, and grassroots structures to participate in the political activities leading to the elections.
“The SPLM, therefore, calls upon all its cadres to begin to report to their constituencies, to their respective states and administrative areas, and all the way to the grassroots,” Kordit said.
He said the return of political power to the people requires party members seeking leadership positions to reconnect with the communities they intend to represent.
“There is no way you can be honourable again without being honoured by the very people you intend to serve,” he added.
Kordit said the SPLM’s objective is to ensure that citizens have an opportunity to elect their leaders and that those elected remain accountable to the people.
He explained that teams would be deployed to different areas to supervise preparations for the party’s Third National Convention and oversee the conduct of primary elections across the states and administrative areas.
“These teams are heading there as supervisors to supervise the process of preparation for the SPLM Third National Convention,” he said.
According to the Secretary-General, the primary elections will form part of the party’s preparations for the December general elections, with members expected to participate actively at the grassroots level.
“As we are all aware, we are going for the general election in December this year,” Kordit said.
The SPLM leadership has continued preparations for the national convention as the country moves toward the December elections.
Kordit urged party members to return to their constituencies without delay and take part in organising the party’s structures and primary processes.
The call comes as political parties and electoral institutions intensify preparations for the upcoming polls.
