Senior presidential envoy engages WES governor, discuss election preparedness

By Lodu William Odiya

Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programs, Adut Salva Kiir, has held consultations with Western Equatoria State Caretaker Governor Daniel Badagbu Rumbasa on key national priorities and preparations for a peaceful electoral process.

The meeting was part of consultations between the presidential envoy and caretaker state leaders on issues affecting their respective areas and the broader political and governance situation in the country.

According to a statement from the Senior Presidential Envoy’s office, the discussions focused on strengthening coordination, addressing key concerns in the states and administrative areas, and supporting efforts toward peaceful and inclusive elections.

Governor Badagbu was among several caretaker leaders who took part in the consultations in Juba.

Others included Northern Bahr el Ghazal Caretaker Governor Charles Dut Akol, Abyei Administrative Area Caretaker Chief Administrator Justice Charles Abyei Jok, and Greater Pibor Administrative Area Caretaker Chief Administrator Joseph Baboya Ngere.

The consultations come as South Sudan prepares for elections planned for December 2026.

Adut Salva Kiir has previously been involved in national engagements focused on dialogue, political inclusion, and preparations for the planned elections. In June, her office announced plans for an inter-party dialogue aimed at bringing political parties and holdout groups together ahead of the elections.

The presidential envoy’s office said the consultations are intended to promote coordination between the national government and sub-national administrations and contribute to a peaceful electoral process.

For Western Equatoria, the engagement provides an opportunity for the state caretaker government to raise key concerns and priorities with the national leadership as preparations for the December elections continue.
