Juba County Commissioner Kalisto Lado vows to crack down on corruption

By Lodu William Odiya

The Caretaker Commissioner of Juba County, Kalisto Lado Faustino, has vowed to take firm action against all forms of corruption and misuse of public resources in the county.

Commissioner Lado said his administration would not tolerate corruption involving land, finances, public administration, or moral conduct, warning officials and individuals who interfere with public resources that they would be held accountable.

“I have come to cut off the hands of all forms of corruption, whether it involves land, finances, administration, or even moral conduct. Anyone who misuses or interferes with public resources will be held accountable. We are moving forward, and this is why I have come here,” Lado said.

The commissioner’s remarks come as Juba County authorities seek to strengthen accountability and improve the management of public affairs amid growing concerns over land disputes, misuse of public resources, and administrative challenges.

Lado stressed that public resources belong to the people and should be protected and used for the benefit of the wider community rather than for personal interests.

He said the county administration would focus on restoring discipline and accountability among public officials while ensuring that government institutions operate in accordance with the law.

The caretaker commissioner also warned against interference in public resources, particularly land and finances, saying individuals found responsible for such practices would face appropriate accountability measures.

Land administration remains one of the major challenges facing communities in and around Juba, with disputes and allegations of land grabbing frequently raising concerns among residents.

Lado said addressing corruption would require commitment from both government officials and citizens, urging residents to support efforts aimed at improving transparency and responsible governance.

He further emphasised the need for public officials to understand that holding government positions comes with responsibility to serve the population.

The commissioner said his administration would continue moving forward with measures aimed at strengthening the county’s institutions and improving service delivery.

His pledge comes at a time when South Sudan is preparing for the December 2026 general elections, increasing calls for public institutions to uphold accountability, impartiality, and responsible use of state resources.

Lado said the county administration would remain committed to protecting public resources and ensuring that those entrusted with public responsibilities serve the interests of the people.
