Eastern Equatoria State Caretaker Governor Louis Lobong Lojore has called on communities to maintain peace, share vital resources, and prepare for the upcoming general elections amid ongoing drought conditions affecting parts of the state.
Governor Lobong made the call on Wednesday during a high-level community engagement in Kimatong Administrative Area, where he addressed residents and administrative leaders on issues affecting communities in the area.
According to a statement from the Governor’s Press Unit, Lobong urged communities to promote peaceful coexistence with neighboring communities and work together to safeguard security across the region.
“The governor urged residents to foster peaceful coexistence with neighboring communities, safeguard regional security, and equitably share vital water and grazing resources during ongoing drought conditions,” the statement read.
The governor’s appeal comes as communities face pressure over access to water and grazing areas, resources that are increasingly important during periods of limited rainfall.
He encouraged residents to resolve disputes peacefully and strengthen cooperation with neighboring communities to prevent conflicts that could further affect livelihoods and security.
Governor Lobong also directed caretaker commissioners and other administrative leaders to strengthen existing peacebuilding mechanisms at the local level.
He said local authorities should work closely with communities to address emerging tensions and promote dialogue as a means of preventing conflicts.
The governor further urged residents to prepare for the upcoming general elections, emphasising the need for communities and local authorities to remain engaged in the electoral process.
He called on administrative leaders to support awareness and preparedness efforts while encouraging communities to participate peacefully in election-related activities.
The engagement in Kimatong also highlighted the importance of cooperation between local authorities and communities in addressing challenges related to drought, security, and access to natural resources.
Governor Lobong’s message comes as South Sudan continues preparations for the general elections expected in December 2026, with peace and security remaining key concerns in several parts of the country.
The governor urged communities to maintain unity and peaceful relations, saying cooperation and responsible sharing of available resources are essential to protecting livelihoods and strengthening stability in Eastern Equatoria State.
