20 goats detained in Magwi for roaming untethered

By Ijoo Bosco

More than 20 goats were detained at a police station in Magwi Payam on Thursday, October 8, 2026, after their owners allegedly allowed them to roam freely without being tethered.

The action was carried out by police and local leaders as part of efforts to enforce local regulations and protect residents’ farms and crops from damage caused by roaming livestock.

According to local authorities, the owners had been repeatedly warned against allowing their animals to wander freely in the area. Officials said the goats had allegedly caused damage to gardens and other property.

The animals will remain in custody until their owners come forward, pay the required fines, and commit to properly tethering their livestock.

Local leaders are urging livestock owners across Magwi to keep their animals properly tied or otherwise contained to prevent damage to crops and avoid similar enforcement measures.
