Caretaker Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs Ayor Akuoch Anok inspected Eagle House on Monday following flooding caused by blocked drainage channels.
The inspection followed recent heavy rains that caused water to accumulate on the building’s floors.
Ayor emphasised the importance of regular maintenance and timely intervention to protect government infrastructure from preventable damage.
He highlighted the need for effective drainage systems and routine inspections, particularly during the rainy season.
The minister reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding public assets through practical solutions and responsible management.
He noted that protecting government infrastructure requires consistent monitoring, preventive maintenance, and accountability in managing public resources.
Ayor also expressed sincere appreciation to the country’s leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility of steering the ministry.
He acknowledged that the confidence placed in him carries a duty to serve diligently and protect national assets.
The minister paid tribute to former leaders who contributed to the country’s infrastructure and institutional development.
He particularly recognised Hon. Gen. Kuol Manyang Juuk for spearheading the initial construction of Eagle House.
Ayor emphasised the importance of preserving the achievements of previous administrations while addressing current infrastructure challenges.
He noted that institutional continuity requires building on past achievements and maintaining facilities for future generations.
The inspection highlighted the need to identify maintenance problems early and prevent them from becoming more costly.
Proper drainage and timely repairs can help extend the lifespan of government buildings and reduce avoidable damage.
Ayor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving public infrastructure through responsive management and practical maintenance measures.
He stressed that government facilities must remain functional and serve their intended purposes effectively.
The minister’s visit underscored his commitment to protecting national investments and promoting responsible stewardship of public resources.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit appointed Ayor Akuoch Anok as Caretaker Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs in September, following the dissolution of the transitional government.
In the same month, President Kiir met with Ayor and his deputy, Gen. Marial Chanuong, to discuss national security priorities and preparations for the upcoming elections.
During the meeting, the president directed the defense leadership to strengthen security arrangements and help create a peaceful environment for electoral activities.
He also emphasised the importance of protecting candidates, ensuring public safety, and supporting a peaceful electoral process.
The president further highlighted the need to improve the welfare of uniformed personnel and strengthen the country’s security institutions.
In response, Ayor and his deputy pledged to advance security-sector reforms, strengthen military discipline, and promote professionalism within the armed forces.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the transformation of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces into a unified, disciplined, and professional national army.
These priorities place Ayor’s caretaker leadership within a broader agenda of institutional reform, security management, and preparations for the country’s electoral transition.
His inspection of Eagle House further highlights the importance of responsible administration, institutional continuity, and the protection of public assets.
