The Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) has launched a Cybersecurity Awareness Month campaign to strengthen digital security, reduce cyber risks, and protect the bank’s financial data and information systems.
The campaign, held during October’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month, focuses on raising staff awareness of common cyber threats and promoting safe digital practices to protect the bank’s operations and maintain public confidence.
Mr. Bul Kornelio Koriom, Director of the Cybersecurity and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) Department, said the initiative aims to build a strong cybersecurity culture across the institution by equipping employees with the knowledge to identify, prevent, and report potential cyber threats.
“The campaign seeks to educate employees about threats such as phishing, malware, and social engineering while promoting safe digital practices,” Koriom said.
He stressed that protecting the bank’s information systems requires the participation of every employee, regardless of their department or role.
“Cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility. Every employee has a role to play in protecting the bank’s information systems and ensuring continuity of operations,” he added.
Cybersecurity Awareness Month provides an opportunity for institutions to reinforce digital safety practices and address threats associated with the use of technology. Common risks include fraudulent emails, malicious software, and attempts to trick individuals into disclosing confidential information.
For a financial institution such as BoSS, safeguarding sensitive information and maintaining secure digital systems are essential to protecting daily operations.
Bul added that “Cyber incidents can expose organisations to data breaches, financial losses, and disruptions to critical services,” he stressed.
The campaign emphasises practical measures employees can adopt to improve digital security, including verifying suspicious emails, protecting passwords, avoiding untrusted links, and promptly reporting unusual digital activity through established channels.
The initiative also reinforces the message that cybersecurity is not solely the responsibility of technical personnel but a shared obligation across all departments.
Through the campaign, BoSS seeks to strengthen staff vigilance, improve preparedness against cyber threats, and promote a security-conscious working environment in support of the Bank’s operational resilience.
