By Sabri Dibaco

The President of the South Sudan National Olympic Committee (SSNOC), Choul Laam, has met representatives of the Awan Muorkuau organisation to discuss opportunities for collaboration aimed at promoting sports development and nurturing talent across the country.

The meeting focused on the role of sports in community development and the need to strengthen initiatives that encourage greater participation and create opportunities for aspiring athletes in South Sudan.

The engagement comes as sports stakeholders seek ways to promote sporting activities and build a stronger foundation for the development of athletes and sports at the community level.

“The discussions centered on the role of sports in community development and the importance of strengthening initiatives that promote participation and nurture sporting talent in South Sudan,” according to a statement from the National Olympic Committee.

During the visit, representatives of the Awan Muorkuau organisation also invited Laam to attend the organization’s upcoming inauguration ceremony, signalling an opportunity for continued engagement between the two institutions.

However, the statement did not specify the proposed joint activities, the timeline for implementation or whether a formal partnership agreement had been reached.

The SSNOC said it remained committed to engaging with organisations and other stakeholders who share its vision of advancing sports development and building a stronger sporting nation.

The meeting highlighted the importance of cooperation between sports institutions and community organisations in expanding participation, identifying emerging talent, and supporting the growth of sports in South Sudan.
