POLITICS: WES SPLM dissolves all party structures ahead of congresses and primaries

By Sabri Dibaco

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) delegation led by Deng Dau Deng has ordered the immediate dissolution of all its party structures across Western Equatoria State to pave the way for upcoming party congresses and primary elections.

The directive, issued on November 3, 2026, by Deng Dau Deng, Chairperson of the SPLM High-Level Organising Committee for Congresses and Primary Elections in Western Equatoria State, affects party structures at state, county, payam and boma levels.

According to Order No. 001/11/2026, the dissolution takes immediate effect, clearing the way for the organisation and conduct of congresses and primary elections across the state.

The order directs all SPLM members intending to contest for various party leadership positions to return to their respective constituencies to participate in the electoral process.

To coordinate the exercise, Deng said the organising committee would establish and deploy sub-committees at different administrative levels.

The sub-committees will comprise five members at the county level, three at the payam level and two at the boma level to oversee the process.

The order also divides Western Equatoria State into three electoral zones to facilitate the implementation of the exercise.

The western zone comprises Nagero, Tambura and Ezo counties, while the central zone covers Yambio and Nzara counties.

The eastern zone includes Maridi, Ibba, Mvolo, Mundri West and Mundri East counties.

Deng called on SPLM members across the state to cooperate with the organising committees and provide the necessary support to ensure peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible congresses and primary elections.

He said the exercise was intended to strengthen party unity and promote cooperation among members throughout Western Equatoria State.
