AU delegation in Juba to engage leaders on peace and bilateral ties

The African Union high representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea had landed in Juba on Wednesday for an official visit.

According to the statement from the South Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, the African Union representative, visited the country with the aim of strengthening peace, full bilateral relations, and promoting regional stability.

The envoy was received by Akuai Bona Malual, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, alongside senior government officials and diplomats. The visit comes at a time when South Sudan continues to engage regional and international partners in efforts to consolidate peace and foster cooperation across the Horn of Africa.

According to officials, the AU delegation will hold high-level discussions on advancing peace, stability, and regional collaboration, including security challenges, cross-border relations, and economic cooperation.

The African Union has been playing a critical role in supporting peace initiatives in South Sudan and the wider Horn of Africa, working closely with regional bodies and international partners.

The deputy minister expressed optimism that the visit will further strengthen ties between South Sudan and the African Union while contributing to ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace and sustainable development in the region.

The High Representative is expected to meet with senior government leaders during his stay in Juba.
