A 40-year-old man is recovering at Panthou Primary Health Care Center after being seriously injured in a knife attack by unknown assailants in Makuei-Alek village, Aweil South County.
The incident occurred on Monday night as the victim, identified as Bak Mayen Dut, was heading to his home when he was ambushed and repeatedly stabbed by attackers who later fled the scene.
The Director of Panthou Payam, Malong Riing confirmed to the media, stating that the victim sustained multiple wounds and was found unconscious before being rushed to the nearby health facility for treatment.
“The man was attacked at night and suffered several serious injuries across his body,” Riing said. “He is currently receiving medical care.”
Local authorities said security forces have been deployed to track down the suspects, who remain at large.
Riing warned that those responsible will face the full force of the law once apprehended.
“This is a disturbing incident for our community,” he said. “Such acts of violence are unacceptable, and anyone found responsible will be prosecuted accordingly.”
Riing also urged residents to avoid moving alone at night, noting growing concerns about safety in the area. He warned that individuals involved in personal disputes could resort to violence, particularly under the cover of darkness.
Authorities have raised alarm over reports of groups of youth moving at night and allegedly carrying out attacks and robberies. Similar incidents have been reported in the past, including a case last year in which a pregnant woman was robbed at gunpoint in the county.
In response, Aweil South County officials have directed local patrol units to intensify security operations and crack down on criminal activities.
Despite these efforts, concerns remain about rising insecurity, with some residents linking the trend to economic hardship and the increasing availability of weapons among youth.
